The Arctic Char - "Red Gold" - is the most beautiful fish under the northern ice. We ride out at first light, drill where the sonar says, and drop small jigs into the silence. When the rod tip knocks, everything else disappears.

What is winter fishing at Lapla Fishing like - season, fish, package and price?
Lapla Fishing runs winter ice fishing packages in Storuman, Swedish Lapland, from 1 December to 30 April. Guests fish from heated tents on frozen lakes for Arctic char, perch, grayling, pike, rainbow trout and whitefish, with snowmobile transfers to the spots. The standard package is 5 days of ice fishing with 6 nights self-catering in an apartment at Lapla Lodge - one heated tent for two guests or two tents for four. Prices start at €1,034 for two guests and €1,266 for four, VAT included. A guide can be added for any day; the fishing licence and the snowmobile transfer to remote spots are extra. From January to March there is also the Mountain Arctic Char Tours: three nights at a mountain camp with guided fishing on the high lakes, €2,000 per person.
When is the ice fishing season in Swedish Lapland?
The winter fishing season at Lapla runs from 01 December to 30 April - deep-winter ice under the northern lights through to long, bright spring days on the frozen lakes.
What fish can I catch ice fishing around Storuman?
The star is Arctic Char - the famous "Red Gold" of Lapland - alongside Perch, Grayling, Pike, Rainbow Trout and Whitefish.
Isn't it too cold to fish in Lapland in winter?
No - you fish from a heated winter tent over the hole while it can be -20°C outside - dress in warm overalls and winter boots and you are comfortable all day. Back at the lodge a wood-fired sauna by the lake ends the day.
What are the Mountain Arctic Char Tours?
Our tours beyond the last road: one night at Lapla Lodge, then three nights at a traditional Swedish mountain camp with 3 days of guided ice fishing by snowmobile on the high lakes where the Red Gold still swims wild. Full board and all transfers included - €2,000 per person (max group of 4).
Is the fishing licence included in the packages?
No - fishing licences (fiskekort) are personal and vary by water, from 50 SEK per day. We help every guest sort the right licence on arrival; it takes minutes.
