When was the last time you spent a day in the middle of a frozen lake, up in the mountains, where the Red Gold of Lapland still swims wild?
Each morning you ride out on snowmobiles with our guides across frozen mountain lakes for your hunt. Drill a hole, drop the lure, and let the mountains go quiet around you.
Five days. Four nights. Three on the ice.
One night at the lodge to arrive and settle, three nights in the mountains, and the drive back down on the last morning.
- Day 01Arrival
Airport pick-up in Vilhelmina and transfer to Lapla Lodge. Dinner and a gear check with your guide. Night at the lodge.
- Day 02Drive to the mountains
130 km by car with the snowmobiles on the trailer. Unload at the camp, settle into the cabin, lunch and take the first ride out onto the ice. Dinner in the evening.
- Day 03Full day on the mountain lakes
Out at first light. The guide reads the sonar, you drill, drop a small jig and wait for the Red Gold. Lunch on the ice or back at the camp, depending on the weather. Dinner and optional sauna.
- Day 04The hunt continues
A new spot, and another hunt. Lunch on the ice, more fishing and back to camp for dinner.
- Day 05Back to Lapla Lodge
Early breakfast, packing and the drive back to the lodge and transfer to the airport.
Arctic Char,
on open ice
Up here there are no tents and no tracks but ours. You fish in the open, on lakes that see a handful of rods a year, with the guide reading the sonar beside you. The Arctic Char of the mountains are wild, bright and unhurried - and every one of them is worth the ride.
Dress for the cold and the day takes care of itself: a hole, a jig, and the silence of the fells until the rod tip knocks.
A simple Nordic camp with character
The cabin sleeps eight, so your group of up to four has it to itself: two sleeping areas - a bedroom with four beds and four bunks in the living room - a fully equipped kitchen, a wood-burning stove for the evenings, a bathroom with a hot shower, and a wood-fired sauna a few steps away.

Questions, answered
Do I drive the snowmobile myself?
Yes. You ride out with our guides every day and drive your own machine on the trail. No licence or experience is needed - the guide shows you everything before the first ride.
How cold is it on the mountain lakes?
On the mountain lakes you fish on open ice, not from a tent, so it can be -20°C with wind. Warm overalls, winter boots, mittens and a face cover make it comfortable - and the cabin, the wood stove and the sauna are waiting in the evening.
Who cooks at the mountain camp?
Your guide. Full board is included: breakfast in the cabin, lunch on the ice, dinner cooked in the cabin's fully equipped kitchen - often with the day's Arctic Char.
Is there phone signal and Wi-Fi at the cabin?
Yes - the cabin has mobile coverage and Wi-Fi, so you can send the photo of the fish the same evening.
What is the minimum and maximum group size?
The expedition runs for groups of 2 to 4 anglers. The price is per person, and the cabin is yours alone whatever the group size.
How far is the mountain camp from Lapla Lodge?
About 130 km. We drive up by car with the snowmobiles on a trailer behind us, unload at the camp and ride from there. All transfers between the lodge and the camp are included.
What should I bring?
Warm overalls and winter boots, mittens, a hat and a face cover, sunglasses for the bright March light, and your fishing licence sorted with us on arrival. Bedding, towels, the kitchen and the sauna are in the cabin.
When does the expedition run?
Every winter from 1 January to 30 March, when the ice on the mountain lakes is solid and the days are getting longer. Tell us your dates and we'll advise on the best weeks.
